You'd think while not working, I'd have more time to post things but it really has been exactly the opposite situation. I'm busier during the day and going to bed earlier, so that leaves little time to write up on the blog. But, limping in for an appearance, here I am.
Pulled what I could only call a Squipper, when I did a job on my little toe just walking through the house. Okay, maybe I was walking faster than normal when my Teva clad toe made direct contact the the protruding 1/2“, in diameter, locking mechanism (it's basically a long screw with a 1/2” top). Besides a small cut, I did manage to limp uptown for an AIGA lunch event that I had organized. By the time I had walked home, the toe was now an unbefore seen combination of black, blue, a little green and maybe a hint of dark purple. The in-house PT ordered me onto the sofa with an ice pack. I stayed there awhile, since walking was a bit difficult, and just wished the pain would go away. Three day's later, it's still pretty sore and colorful but I don't think it's broken and I did manage to walk to and from the parade, even with Liam riding on my shoulders part of the way.
One of my almost new branding clients had to put their project on hold when their landlord let them know he wouldn't be renewing there lease. So, their re-branding is on hold until they find a new place. They did say they might have some projects for me for a few of their clients but I can't count those eggs until they are in my hands. For those of you curious about what it is I'm trying to do while still seeking full-time work, here's a brief overview in PDF format. Photography was done by a fabulous artist by the name of Dominique Malaterre. If you ever are in need of great, inspirational work that's hand-crafted and not digitally created, she's great. And you can't beat the Montreal location.
On the job search front, I'm going to be speaking with a printing company I've worked with over the past, too many years, about a Director of Marketing position they have open. While it's not a design job—I can do that on the side—it is a great chance to get involved in strategy and branding, which is the direction I really need to move in. This is not to say I don't still have a passion for design, I do. But I have the advantage of being able to fit into various roles rather easily with my background in writing, design and being a self-taught brand strategist. It would be a thrill and a challenge, so we shall see.
Okay, time to go cook dinner for the family. Hope you all are having a great weekend.
Posted by robdesign at May 14, 2005 06:19 PM | TrackBackRob - it's nice to read that some good things have been happening for you (I've not yet read the PDF but will in a minute.) I wish you the very best of luck with each new step you're taking. Now onto your latest branding effort of "doing a Squipper." Oh no, I've been branded! At least you don't plummet down stairs at least once a year, haven't walked into the building support of an office that is across the street from the United Nations or smashed your face into a plane of glass while looking at the window display. Now THOSE things constitute "doing a Squipper." I know, well... because I've done them all, and hey, I'm Squipper. :-)
Hope your toe is back to its original color soon!
