Part of my new routine is to get up early and have some 'quiet' or work time to myself before the chaos of the morning starts. I was really hoping to have about two hours in the morning for writing and etc...but as it was, I was only getting an hour, which was not enough.
So, I this morning I got up at a quarter-to-five but it took me 45 minutes to shower, shave and get dressed. I was hoping it would only take me 30 minutes or less. So I either have to shower faster or get up even earlier. It really find it amusing that a shower should take any longer than say, ten minutes. (I think I heard somewhere that that was the average). Unless you are shaving in the shower, really it shouldn't take all that long. Soap, scrub, rinse. Wash your hair and your done. Right? That really shouldn't take more than ten minutes, but it always seem to. And honestly, I couldn't tell you why, unless I'm catnapping in the shower and don't realize it. Nah, that can't be it. Maybe our perception of time changes when we are being pelted with warm water? Who knows?
Posted by robdesign at April 12, 2005 05:34 AMRob, I think that you may be describing a state of altered conciousness. This happens due to the repetitive motion of the water and the absence of other stimuli. I have always had to check my watch before showering. It reminds me to stay focused,or be late for work. My experience is that in this altered state, my mind is freer and I often find overlooked solutions to problems. I guess that this altered state encourages thinking "outside the box". Bill in the mail!
Posted by: 2b at April 14, 2005 08:50 AMWow! I thought I was the only person to lose track of time in the shower! You guys have taught me something - it takes me 45 minutes just to shower - and I do normally shave in the shower! That doesn't even count the putting on makeup & brushing my teeth!
Hope the kids are on the mend, I am still waiting for pics! Give my love to the kids!
