Does it really matter that one doesn't feel the age that they are? Or is it strange or just the norm of the 21st century. I turned 41 today but really feel more like 30 something and I'm not just saying that because I wish not to age. Really, I just don't know what 41 is supposed to feel like and I'm not sure this is or isn't it. And I just feel younger than the number. I know plenty of friends my age who complain about being the age they are, the new aches and pains, etc...but you know, it doesn't really matter to me. It really is just a number.
I've been quite busy trying to play catch-up with my long overdue to do list of work, AIGA and home stuff. It's amazing just how much there is to do and how long it can take, even for the simple things like writing.
I spent my weekend (Fri/Sat) in Richmond, VA. as a judge of AIGA-Richmond's GRADE design competition. It was exhausting work but really fun and I'd love to be invited to do it again. It's actually more difficult than giving a critque when teaching, because the designer isn't there to defend or explain their work and process. But it's clear, that good design does stand-out from the ordinary or everyday design. It just speaks a language much clearer than other work. And for any designer, that's a really important thing to learn. If it doesn't feel special, it probably isn't.
Waiting to hear about a job opportunity that I'd really like to take. I haven't even interviewed yet but I just feel some special karma about it. Could just be my eagerness since it's a firm I've always wanted to work for. But in any case, it would be a great move and I think I would be very happy and would still be able to walk to work.
Time to catch the train (Baltimore's Light Rail) toward home. Making my own birthday dinner since Karen and Liam are carpooling Izzy and her friend Emilie home from pottery class.
And really, since 42 is the meaning of life, I've got a whole year to look forward to that.
Posted by robdesign at February 22, 2005 05:12 PMRob - first, let me wish you a very happy birthday, even if it is toward the end of the day. Next, I hope that your wish comes true (the job opp) and last, I'm sorry I missed the opp for a second cup of SB - next time!
