Well, $3K and an essentially rebuilt engine later, our beloved car is back in our driveway where it belongs. And guess what, it's not overheating anymore.
Of course, after a month of renting (making this year's summer vacation just a tad over budget) SUVs (first the Hyundai Santa Fe and then a Jeep Liberty—the Liberty I got at the mid-size car price because the didn't have any mid-size cars available). So, now I know that my next car will most likely be some form of SUV. One that's a bit bigger than the Liberty but not as big as something like the Navigator.
